Many years ago, I had a successful, but harried and hectic career in the design field and was a single mother with two young boys. My days were long and extremely stressful. As a new year was approaching, I decided that I needed to make a change. I traded business suits for yoga pants and began my journey back to the happy and healthy woman I used to be. This led me to start my own nutrition and reflexology practice, b.healthy, to help others do the same.
One day a friend mentioned a recent article about a therapy called floating. I was intrigued and began my research. I became anxious to try it! I was disappointed to learn there wasn't anything local, but I wasn't to be deterred.
During this time, the son of one of my clients offered to mentor my child in engineering. One night, while my boys were off gathering legos for a project with Buddy, we began making small talk and the topic of floating came up. He was not familiar with the term, but became very excited when I mentioned sensory deprivation therapy (which is what the field was called back in the 70s - my research was proving useful!). As it turns out, Buddy was very fascinated with floating as a teen! Who would have ever imagined two people having such a unique common interest?
We excitedly talked for hours and made plans to float as soon as we could. After our first float we were hooked! It became a mission to float anywhere we could...including attending a float conference on the west coast! Sometime within that process we began planning our own float center, and also fell in love...not just with floating, but with each other.
Buddy and I, now married, brought my designs and his engineering together to create this incredible place we call Metta, which means loving kindness. A place where we can share our love of floating and passion for a happy, healthy lifestyle with you.
